Anthropic ships Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1, cuts prices up to 45%

Anthropic introduced two new models built on the same underlying system but shipped with different safeguard levels. Claude Fable 5.1 is generally available. Claude Mythos 5.1 is restricted to trusted access programs, with safeguards specifically built to support work in cybersecurity and the life sciences.

Fable 5.1 will cost an estimated 25% less than Fable 5 for typical token-billed workloads, driven by lower pricing on cache reads (inputs the model has already processed and stored). For highly agentic work, Anthropic says savings will often be much larger, up to approximately 45%. On data retention, Anthropic announced Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS), a system that stores customer data on infrastructure the customer controls rather than Anthropic's own systems, with any human review handled by the customer by default. On safeguards, Anthropic says its newest cybersecurity safeguards block 60% fewer false positives than before, partly because Fable 5.1 can now be used to discover software vulnerabilities, though not to develop exploits for them. In biology, Anthropic has set up an access program with the US government to give Mythos 5.1's advanced biology capabilities to scientists, with enrollment expected to open soon.

Anthropic cites one early-access example directly: in testing by the investment firm Millennium, Fable 5.1 found the cause of a rare crash in Millennium's internal systems that none of its engineers, nor any other model, had been able to explain after several years of trying.

On scientific research, Anthropic tested Mythos 5.1 on molecular design by giving it open-source protein design and folding tools and sending its designs for external experimental validation. On three targets, its binding affinities came out 10 times higher than the best designs submitted to Adaptyv Bio's protein design competitions, and its hit rate (the share of designs that were viable binders) reached nearly 50% across 12 targets, against a typical 10-15% hit rate in protein design today.

Separately, Fable 5.1 trained a neural network to build a new elevation map covering a third of the planet Venus, versus one-fifth previously mapped, using radar images from NASA's Magellan mission taken more than 30 years ago. The new map resolves details down to two to three kilometers rather than 10 to 20, and shows heights up to 25% more accurately than before. Anthropic is releasing it under a Creative Commons license ahead of the upcoming NASA VERITAS and ESA EnVision missions.

In computational biology, Mythos 5.1 wrote custom GPU kernels and cached intermediate results to speed up seven open-source deep learning models by up to 2.5 times, with identical outputs, cutting estimated GPU costs by 30-60% on large-scale analyses such as testing every possible mutation near every human gene. Anthropic says this kind of optimization normally takes a team of performance engineers weeks and is often unaffordable for academic labs; Mythos 5.1 did it in days using only publicly available source code, and Anthropic plans to open-source the optimizations.

On safety testing, Anthropic evaluated Mythos 5.1 for chemical and biological risks through expert red-teaming, automated evaluations and a tabletop exercise pairing PhD-level biologists with AI experts.
