Apple launches 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 chip

On 27 October 2026 Apple announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip, in a press release on its India newsroom. Pre-orders begin on 28 October, and the laptop starts arriving to customers and in Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Resellers on Friday, 6 November. Pre-orders open in 35 countries and regions, including the U.S. It comes in space black and silver.

M6 has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, each with two more cores than before. Apple says the CPU has the world's fastest CPU core. Against M5, Apple claims the GPU delivers up to 30 percent faster graphics and up to 25 percent faster AI workloads, such as LLM prompt processing. Every GPU core now has a Neural Accelerator, and the Dual 16-core Neural Engine is said to be up to 1.9x faster than M5's. Apple names image generation, Super Resolution and AI upscaling as workloads that the Neural Engine and GPU speed up together. The release gives no numeric CPU gain over M5, only a "boost in CPU speed".

For people upgrading from the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, Apple lists up to 13x faster time to first token in LLM prompt processing, up to 11.7x faster ray-traced rendering in Blender, up to 3.3x faster image processing in Affinity, and up to 2.5x faster project builds in Xcode. Against the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5, the same four tests are up to 1.3x, 1.3x, 1.2x and 1.3x faster respectively. Separately, Apple cites up to 11x faster graphics and up to 13x faster AI performance for M1 upgraders. Every figure is an "up to" claim from Apple.

Memory starts at 16GB of unified memory, configurable up to 32GB, with bandwidth up to 170GB/s. Battery life is up to 24 hours, which Apple calls the longest ever in a Mac. That is up to 14 additional hours for Intel-based upgraders and up to four more hours for users coming from M1. Fast charging reaches up to 50 percent in 30 minutes with a compatible higher-wattage USB-C adapter such as the 96W Power Adapter.

The rest of the hardware is familiar: a Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, with a nano-texture option; a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View; a three-mic array and six-speaker sound system; Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6; support for up to two external displays; and HDMI, MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack.

It ships with macOS 27, which Apple calls Golden Gate and which includes Siri AI. Apple describes Siri AI as a more capable, conversational and personal assistant that can use personal context across messages, emails and photos, work inside Spotlight and context menus, and answer questions about what is on screen through Visual Intelligence. Apple Intelligence features in Safari include automatic tab grouping by topic, alerts for product restocks or price drops, and custom extensions made from a description. Shortcuts can build automations from a description, and a new Liquid Glass slider runs from ultraclear to fully tinted.

Shelly Goldberg, Apple's vice president of Hardware Engineering, says the M6 chip takes performance "to the next level", with a boost in CPU speed and graphics and more powerful on-device AI.

On the India store the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at INR 239900, or INR 227900 with education savings. Accessories are priced in India at INR 5800 for the 70W Power Adapter, INR 8900 for the 96W, INR 11900 for the 140W, and INR 4900 for the World Travel Adapter Kit. On the environment, Apple says the machine is made with 45 percent recycled content overall, including 100 percent recycled aluminium in the enclosure and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery. It also uses 100 percent recycled tantalum in multiple capacitors, a first for Apple. It is manufactured with 60 percent renewable electricity across the supply chain.

Why it matters

This is a chip-generation refresh of Apple's mainstream pro laptop, and Apple puts on-device AI at the centre of it. Each GPU core gets a Neural Accelerator, the Neural Engine is said to be up to 1.9x faster than M5's, and the headline AI example is LLM prompt processing, up to 25 percent faster than M5. The larger numbers are measured against the 13-inch M1 model, where Apple claims up to 13x faster time to first token. Against the M5 14-inch the gains are smaller, between 1.2x and 1.3x in the four listed tests. Apple also pitches the machine as a way to run LLMs locally while preserving user privacy.

Who it affects

Apple names college students, business users and creators as the audience. The upgrade case is aimed at owners of Intel-based Macs and M1 machines: up to 14 extra hours of battery for Intel upgraders, up to four more for M1 users, 16GB of starting memory, and an additional Thunderbolt port. Shoppers in India get the INR 239900 starting price, with INR 227900 for education buyers. Pre-orders also open in 34 other countries and regions, including the U.S.

How to use it

Pre-order from 28 October on apple.com/in/store or in the Apple Store app. Units begin arriving, and reach Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Resellers, on Friday, 6 November. It comes in space black and silver, with a nano-texture display option. For fast charging to 50 percent in 30 minutes, pair it with a compatible higher-wattage USB-C adapter such as the 96W Power Adapter (INR 8900 in India). It ships with macOS 27, so Siri AI and the Apple Intelligence features in Safari, Shortcuts and Photos are available from the start. Further specifications and configure-to-order options are on apple.com/in/macbook-pro.

How solid is it

This is Apple's own press release, so the announcement itself (date, availability, India pricing, specifications) is first-party. The performance and battery numbers are Apple's own "up to" claims, and the world's fastest CPU core is also Apple's claim. The visible text does not include the test methodology or footnote contents. No independent benchmarks, reviews or third-party reactions are given.

Risks and caveats

Treat every speed-up as a best case: the figures are maxima, and the biggest ones compare against M1 rather than the current M5 model. The release gives no numeric CPU gain over M5, only a qualitative boost. Pricing appears only in Indian rupees, with no US or other price in the text, and the memory-upgrade and storage prices are not stated. The release also does not say whether this replaces or is sold alongside the M5 14-inch model.

“With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level, with a boost in CPU speed and graphics and even more powerful capabilities for on-device AI.”
